Three assessments are used by Boston Public School teachers to assist education delivery in early childhood students. Phonological Awareness Language Screening (PALS) helps teachers address areas of improvment in literacy and language comprehension. An Expressive Vocabulary Test (EVT) is a published, normative assessment of a student's expressive vocabulary and word retrieval. The EVT asks the student to label pictures and produce synonyms. The Learning Accomplishment Profile (LAP) system employs a series of quick assessments to help teachers determine which areas of learning to focus on for a specific child. The children are also observed using the Work Sampling System in their personal Social Development.
